Creating a bedroom your child will love is not hard to do and can be very fun as their imagination really comes out and you see what kind of world they envision. There are several key elements in creating a dream bedroom. There are the walls and the ceiling, the floors and the window coverings, the furniture and, last but not least, the blankets, pillows, and sheets, along with any extras that will make it special.
Get Creative
You could just slather a certain color of paint on the walls or add some borders and wall decorations. There are posters and photos with frames. Or you could have someone come out and paint a mural on the wall and ceiling. You could paint it like a checkerboard and create a little girl’s room like Alice In Wonderland. You could paint the ceiling with storm clouds and do a pirate theme for the boys.
The floors can have a lush carpet or hardwoods. It could be a special rug or perhaps tile. For the windows, there are so many types of treatments and coverings, it may be hard to choose which one. But, you could always make them yourself and use a specific type of material from the craft store. Pink furry curtains could be for a girl’s Barbie room and brown ratty ones for a boy’s cowboy themed room.
It’s all in the Details
Furnishings are very much a part of making a dream bedroom. There are so many to choose from and, on top of that, you or someone you know may want to make the furniture themselves. For a Princess style room, an armoire that opens up to a glorious mirror inside the door and a place to hang their girlie coats and jackets on the inside of the other door would be precious. A simple blue bean bag chair with stars on it could be a Buzz Lightyear themed chair for a boy. A four post bed with dolphin posts and a water scene painted around the bottom would be perfect for a Little Mermaid themed room and a car shaped bed painted just like Lightning McQueen would be excellent for a boy.
Once you have the furnishings, the pillows, blankets and sheets should be fairly easy to match and pick out or buy the fabric and make yourself. What really makes a dream bedroom a dream bedroom is the little extras you add. For a Diego theme, lots of stuffed wild animals hanging around all over the place. For Hannah Montana, a karaoke machine with your daughter’s favorite songs playing.
A dream bedroom is anything your child wishes it to be. So get ready to open your mind and explore with them the possibilities of other worlds to live in - at least in their bedroom.
